But, before you take any sides and join one camp over another, it is important to be well-informed about the differences between Mac and PC. You also have to bear in mind that though they are two different things, a Mac and a PC also share numerous similarities. Here are snapshots of what makes a PC distinct from a Mac and vice-versa.

1.  Operating Systems and Programming Types.

The default operating system of Mac is OS X, though Linux and Windows operating systems also work. However, the use of the two latter operating systems in Mac is considered illegal. Mac has been designed to run solely on OS X. This operating system of Mac also carries with it its own set of applications and programs. For instance, Mac computers are the only ones known to use the extension DMG.

On the contrary, PC or personal computers operate best with Windows, although Linux is also becoming a popular operating system for PC users. There is no legal permission yet to run a PC on OS X. The operating systems designed for PC such as Windows and Linux also have their own definite set of programs and applications – distinct from that of OS X. The extension EXE also works solely on PCs running on Windows.

2.  Hardware Customization.

The hardware customization options available in Mac are limited to upgrading the RAM and hardware capacity. Aside from those, there’s not much you can work on. However, if you own a Mac Book Pro, you’re luckier! You can work on the customization of the RAM, hard drive and graphics card and on the adding of CD/DVD drives. A Mac is similar to the case of a BMW where you do not want to do more work on it.

PCs are very user-friendly because you can customize and tinker on almost every hardware component you may set your eyes on. You can even build and assemble your own PC using hardware pieces you have personally picked. Even branded PCs such as Dell provide a leeway for hardware customization.

3.  Profile of Users

Even the profile or general characteristics of the users and followers that have been attracted by both camps seem to have their own distinct qualities as well. Mac seems to attract people who would like to stand out and assert their own distinctiveness or individuality. However, PC users seem to prefer sharing a certain commonality with the rest of the populace. Mac users have also been observed to be that of the verbal and risk-taking types while PC followers are more factual and hardworking.

So, are you for Mac or for PC? The choice is yours.
