Mac Computers
In March, 1977 Apple Computers introduced the Apple II microcomputer and then a few years later they introduced the Lisa, which was the first commercial personal computer which had the GUI (graphical user interface). The Lisa computer was the first personal computer to have a mouse with it. The Macintosh computer was first introduced in 1984 and Apple became very successful with it. It became a major influence in graphical interfaces with the major computer systems. Some of their successful systems were the Atari ST., and the Commodore Amiga. These systems showed up on the market within two years after the Macintosh was first introduced to the public.
In 1991, Apple introduced their PowerBook series of portable computers. The market also fell in the 1990's for Apple because of the introduction of Microsoft Windows and the IBM PC compatible computers. In the 2000's, Apple concentrated more on software which would include professional video, music, and photo production programs and products. They also introduced the iPod which has been very successful. The iPod became the most popular digital musical player in the world.
In 1997, Macworld Expo entered into a partnership with Microsoft and they released new versions of Microsoft Office for the Macintosh computer. On November 10, 1997, Apple introduced the Apple Store which is their online retail store which was based on the webObjects application server. In 1998, Apple released their new Mac computer and later designed the iPhone. The company sold over 800,000 iMac units and this helped tremendously in getting the company back on track and into profit again.
In March, 2001, the Mac OS X operating system on mac computers was released This system was available for individual consumers as well as businesses. The company released their titanium PowerBook in 2001 and it was followed (also in 2001), by the white iBook. In 2002 they released their flat panal iMac and in 2003 they followed with their Power Mac G5, and in 2004, with their Apple Cinema Displays.
Apple released their first Intel chip computers which is a notebook computer called the MacBook Pro, and has a 15.4" screen. They also released a new iMac which has 2 to 3 times the speed performance of previous products. In 2006, the company changed all of their Mac product line to Intel chips. They kept their outside design but replaced the components on the inside. They retired the Power Mac brand and introduced the Mac Pro. They also released the software called Boot Camp which helped the customers install Windows XP on their Intel Mac computer along with the Mac OS X.
